Are you remodeling or building a house and going crazy because you have to wait for materials? Do you sometimes feel like prices change every hour? In the construction industry, supply chain problems have been a problem for a few years now, and we’ve had to deal with a lot of problems, like skyrocketing lumber prices and months-long delays on windows and doors. Here are some ideas to help you keep your project on schedule even if there are problems in the supply chain:
Start Early
This seems like a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised at how many clients don’t know which materials need to be chosen and ordered before construction even starts. Windows and doors, trusses, and appliances are all very important. If you don’t order these things early enough, they can delay a project by weeks or even months.
Shop From Trusted Merchants
If a vendor gives you lead times that are too long, don’t be afraid to look around until you find a company that can get you what you need in the time you need it. This is one of the services our team offers to our clients. Sometimes, getting what you want when you need it takes a lot of persistence. At one point, a certain type of lumber wasn’t available in Florida, so one of our team members had to drive to Georgia to get it. When stores like Home Depot and Lowes can’t give you the materials you need, you should be willing to go outside of your comfort zone.
Try to Adapt
In this market, your design and your budget may need to be flexible. There are so many different finishes out there that you can usually find a replacement if something is out of stock or if the price goes up.
