Every kitchen remodeling process begins with a packing and purging party as you prepare your temporary cooking space. Using this time to thoughtfully analyze each item in your kitchen and only keeping what you actually love and need is something we always tell our clients to do. We’ve learned from personal experience that it’s best to clean up and organize your kitchen as soon as the remodeling process starts. In order to determine whether to keep each item, we prefer to take everything out of your cabinets and drawers and evaluate its worth. It’s time to prepare for your remodel and pack your belongings after you’ve finished that.
1. Decide where your temporary kitchen will be located.
Because many of our clients remain at home while their kitchens are being renovated, it’s essential for them to have a small area set up to serve as a temporary “kitchen” space. Given that each home (and family needs) are different, we would be more than pleased to help you choose a spot in your home that would be suitable for this. In case a laundry room is required, a second bathroom with a close prep area can be used instead.
2. Set aside everything you will require for the renovation.
But the essentials ought to remain outside! We suggest having a coffee maker, a toaster oven, and a microwave, along with one set of dishes, cups, and utensils for each resident in your home. Meals that you know you’ll be preparing at home while you’re remodeling should be planned in advance. By making any essential food preparation in advance, you can lower your takeout expenditures.
Keep things simple because you’ll be hand-washing every item you use. If you want to save yourself some time and effort, think about adopting compostable or recyclable disposals. It’s a great chance to use up all of your mismatched party plates, cups, and napkins from previous get-togethers.
3. Set aside the items from your kitchen for storage while the house is being constructed.
Using small and medium-sized boxes, packing paper, and bubble wrap, you can pack your superfluous stuff most effectively. When you pack, your possessions stay tidy, safe, and organized! So that you can simply set up your kitchen once everything is finished, remember to label your boxes. A great post.
4. The cleanup is finished.

To keep you more organized, we recommend packing each category separately. Search your cabinets and drawers for complementary items to see what you have. Give the items you’ve accumulated but never utilized a home. There is no reason to keep something that you aren’t using. Think about the following suggestions for clearing up each category:
Throw away any dining room furniture that you don’t use or enjoy. If you’re planning to sell them, snap some photos of them right away. Before discarding the set(s), inspect them for chips and cracks. If the glazing is broken or chipped, your food could become contaminated with hazardous microbes (if not sanitized properly).
The items that are used for serving and entertaining are typically bulky and difficult to store. Find the extraneous things that don’t fit your hosting style and take them out of your entertainment.
Mugs and promotional cups are notoriously difficult to get rid of since they typically have sentimental value. Remove all of the contents from the cabinets so you can view everything at once. Choose the items you want to keep and explain your decision. If you have a collection of mugs, you might want to consider storing them elsewhere in the house or including a display space when remodeling your kitchen.
I never cease to be amazed at the pace at which our Tupperware drawer fills up! I usually start by identifying which containers require corresponding lids before throwing anything away or giving it.
Your lifestyle and demands should be accommodated by all of your tiny appliances and electronics. Instead of focusing on whether an item might be useful in the future, attempt to determine whether it is important to you right now. You may tell if you genuinely value the idea rather than just considering using it by doing this. Donating unneeded appliances is the proper course of action.
Extras: Get rid of everything that has become useless and cut back on the number of surplus items you’ve been storing (think warped spatulas, peelings nonstick pans, etc.).
5. Consider carefully what you keep.
If you’re having problems deciding what to take with you, consider your current way of life and what you might be anticipating in the near future. You’ll be glad you took the time to purge unnecessary items before the renovation is complete and it’s time to relocate to your new kitchen. It takes less time to pack, store, and unpack things.
